After a long wait between seasons 1 and 2, fans of Wednesday may not have to wait as long for season 3. The hit Netflix series has officially been renewed, and signs point to a faster return than expected.
The Rise of a Gothic Phenomenon
Since its debut in November 2022, Wednesday has become Netflix’s second most successful series of all time—just behind Squid Game. Starring Jenna Ortega as the razor-sharp Wednesday Addams, the show brings viewers to the eerie Nevermore Academy, where Wednesday hones her psychic powers and uncovers dark mysteries—all while battling enemies and forming complicated friendships.
Although set in Vermont, the series was filmed in Romania during the winter of 2021–2022. The production featured more than 70 elaborate sets and six soundstages across Bucharest.
Season 3 is Confirmed
Netflix officially renewed Wednesday for a third season on July 23, 2025, just ahead of the second season’s Part 1 launch in August. Co-creator and showrunner Alfred Gough shared his excitement:
“I’ve been doing this long enough to know that shows like this don’t come along every day. It’s an alchemy of writing, directing, acting, crew, streamer, studio, and fans.”
Returning Cast & New Faces
The series is based on Charles Addams’ iconic The Addams Family comic strip, which ran from 1938 until his death in 1988. The main cast includes:
- Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams
- Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia
- Luis Guzmán as Gomez
- Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley
Other returning stars include Emma Myers as werewolf roommate Enid Sinclair and Christina Ricci as Marilyn Thornhill. Season 2 also introduced Billie Piper as Ophelia and Joanna Lumley as Grandmama Hester Frump—both of whom may return in season 3.
What to Expect in Season 3
Although there’s no confirmed plot yet, part two of season 2 teases where the story could go next. Ophelia’s motives grow darker, and Hester seems to know more than she lets on. The creators promise more surprises ahead.
Co-showrunner Miles Millar hinted:
“We’ll be seeing more Addams Family members and learning more family secrets in season 3.”
Season 2 expanded the lore and introduced intriguing new characters. It also shifted into more complex and darker storylines. If that trend continues, expect season 3 to be even more intense—and just as twisted.
Gough adds:
“Our goal is always the same: to make each season better than the last. We’re expanding the world of Nevermore and digging deeper into our characters.”
When Will It Be Released?
There’s no official release date yet. However, filming for season 3 is expected to begin in November 2025, just two months after the release of season 2’s second part. That’s a major improvement over season 2’s production timeline, which didn’t begin until 18 months after season 1 premiered.
If production stays on track, Wednesday season 3 could premiere in early 2027—or possibly sooner.
