French rider Maëva Squiban (UAE Team ADQ) delivered a sensational solo breakaway to win stage 6 of the Tour de France Femmes, from Clermont-Ferrand to Ambert (124km). She launched her decisive attack on the Col du Chansert and held off the chasing riders to secure her first-ever Tour stage victory on home soil.
Elise Chabbey (FDJ-Suez) was instrumental in the early break and extended her lead in the Queen of the Mountains classification. Meanwhile, Marianne Vos dropped dramatically in the general classification, falling from 6th to 29th. Kim Le Court Pienaar (AG Insurance-Soudal) retained the yellow jersey despite finishing third, and remarked after the stage: “It could’ve been better if I had won it!”
