The Shaky Knees Music Festival returned this weekend with a powerful lineup featuring both legendary acts and rising stars. The festival opened Friday with standout performances from Deftones, Sublime, and Lenny Kravitz, alongside high-energy sets by newcomers Idles and The Marías.

This year marks a significant shift for the festival, which moved from its traditional spring slot at Central Park to Piedmont Park in the fall. The new location, previously used by the indefinitely paused Music Midtown, allowed the festival to expand while maintaining its rock-focused identity.

A Bigger Stage for Bigger Crowds

With its relocation to Piedmont Park, Shaky Knees 2025 now features four stages and over 40 food vendors. Several vendor “houses” also offer free giveaways, creating a vibrant atmosphere throughout the grounds.

To manage the crowd, 10th Street between Monroe Drive and Piedmont Avenue closed for the weekend. Organizers encouraged public transit, and MARTA officials successfully directed attendees to the nearby Midtown station, ensuring smooth access and exit.

Weekend Lineup and Ticket Availability

The festival runs through Sunday, opening at 11:30 a.m. each day. Headliners My Chemical Romance and Blink-182 will close out Saturday and Sunday night, respectively, with performances scheduled to end by 11 p.m. While Saturday passes are sold out, a limited number of Sunday day passes remain available.

Friday Highlights

Inhaler Ignites the Stage

Irish band Inhaler kicked off the weekend with an upbeat, energetic set. Despite the September heat, fans gathered early and were rewarded with crowd favorites like “It Won’t Always Be Like This” and “Dublin in Ecstasy”. Tracks from their latest album Open Wide were met with enthusiastic singalongs.

Sublime’s Revival with Jakob Nowell

Surf-punk legends Sublime delivered one of the most dynamic sets of the day. Now touring with original members, the band introduced Jakob Nowell—son of the late Bradley Nowell—as frontman. He blended nostalgia and new energy, performing hits like “Doin’ Time” and new material such as “Ensenada.”

Idles Bring Controlled Chaos

British punk band Idles kept the crowd moving with an explosive performance. Fresh off three Grammy nominations for TANGK, the band’s intensity sparked multiple mosh pits and crowd-surfing moments. Songs like “War” and “Rottweiler” showcased their power and confirmed their rising influence in modern rock.

The Marías Deliver Style and Substance

Closing the Piedmont Stage, The Marías captivated fans during one of the final shows on their Submarine tour. Lead singer María Zardoya stunned with her dreamy, fog-filled performance of “Only In My Dreams.” She wrapped the set with “Cariño,” an upbeat tribute to her father that left the crowd dancing.
