Paris Saint-Germain defeated Tottenham Hotspur in a penalty shootout to win the 2025 UEFA Super Cup, becoming the first French club to claim the trophy.
The match at Friuli Stadium ended 2–2 after 90 minutes. PSG then triumphed 4–3 on penalties, securing their fifth trophy of the 2024–25 season — after the Ligue 1 title, French Cup, French Super Cup, and UEFA Champions League.
A Historic Milestone for French Football
Until now, no French team had lifted the Super Cup. Olympique Marseille won the Champions League in 1993, and PSG followed suit in 2025 by beating Inter Milan 5–0 in the final. That Champions League triumph earned Luis Enrique’s side their place in this year’s Super Cup.
Enrique’s Second Super Cup
For head coach Luis Enrique, this is his second career Super Cup victory. His first came in 2015, when Barcelona beat Sevilla 5–4 in extra time.
Significance of the Win
The victory caps PSG’s most successful season in history and underscores their dominance in both French and European football. With the club now holding all major domestic and continental honours in one season, it marks the start of a new era for the Parisian giants.
