The Monster lives — and he’s arriving soon.
Netflix and Academy Award-winner Guillermo del Toro have officially revealed two teaser posters, a trailer, and the release date for his long-awaited adaptation of Frankenstein. The gothic horror epic will hit select theaters on October 17, followed by a global Netflix release on November 7.
A Dream Decades in the Making
“This has been the culmination of a journey that has occupied most of my life,” del Toro told fans during Netflix Tudum 2025, where the first teaser dropped. “Monsters have become my personal belief system.”
Del Toro has spent over 25 years pursuing this adaptation. Echoes of Frankenstein have rippled through his past work — from Hellboy to Pan’s Labyrinth and his 2022 Oscar-winning Pinocchio. Now, he finally brings Mary Shelley’s literary classic to life.
A Monstrous Cast
The star-studded ensemble includes:
- Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein
- Jacob Elordi as The Creature
- Mia Goth as Elizabeth Lavenza
- Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery, and Charles Dance
The Trailer: A Taste of Terror
In the teaser, Oscar Isaac’s Victor whispers:
“Some of what I will tell you is fact. Some is not. But it is all true.”
The haunting visuals pay homage to classic del Toro aesthetics — shadowy staircases, burning angels, and surreal monsters that blur the line between nightmare and soul.
From the Cast
Oscar Isaac called the role “the experience of a lifetime,” adding, “This film stands on the shoulders of every creature feature — but it’s a dark, sumptuous drama at its core.”
Mia Goth was immediately drawn to the role of Elizabeth: “It all started with the book. I couldn’t wait to dive in.”
Jacob Elordi, playing the tragic Creature, praised del Toro as “a real-life genius” and said he was proud of the emotionally rich storytelling.
The Story
Frankenstein tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant yet arrogant scientist who creates life — only to face horrifying consequences. The tale explores themes of identity, abandonment, and what it means to be human.
“Exploring the relationship between creator and creation, father and son, has consumed my stories again and again,” said del Toro.
