Announcement on the ‘New Heights’ Podcast
Taylor Swift has announced her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. She revealed the news during the New Heights podcast, hosted by her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce.
In an Instagram clip promoting the episode, Swift held a blurred version of the album cover. “This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl,” she said. The full episode will be available at 7 p.m. (1100 GMT).
Album Release and Pre-Orders
The official release date is still under wraps. However, Swift’s website has opened pre-orders. Fans can purchase the vinyl for $30, the cassette for $20, or a CD bundle with a poster for $13.
Career Milestones Leading to the Album
Earlier this year, Swift bought the master recordings of her first six albums. This move gave her complete control over her music after a long dispute with her former record label.
Her Eras Tour became the first concert tour in history to gross more than $1 billion. The tour also generated a significant boost in local economies, a phenomenon now called “Swiftflation.”
Record-Breaking Previous Release
Swift’s last album, The Tortured Poets Department, sold 2.61 million albums and streaming units in its first U.S. week. Billboard named it the largest streaming week for any album and the biggest vinyl sales week in the modern era.
Spotify also reported that the album surpassed 1 billion streams in a single week — the highest ever for any release.
A Busy Year for Music
Swift is not the only artist dropping new music this year. Sabrina Carpenter will release Man’s Best Friend in August. Ed Sheeran’s next album is due in September.
